Giles Whittome, London "The Elephant Rifle" in .577 Nitro Express as new from the maker built on the Shirley falling block action with a 24 " barrel with a single blade island rear sight and integral banded ramp ivory bead front sight. Color case hardened Farquarson style reciever with 80% coverage of English rose and scroll engraving. Near exhibition Turkish Walnut pistol grip stock with flat top checkering, ebony forend tip, skeleton pistol grip cap, vacant stock oval, and shadow line cheekpiece with correct layout and grain structure for a large bore dangerous game gun. Monte Carlo buttstock with 13 1/2 " LOP to an elephant hide pad. This behemoth weighs in at the appropriate .577 weight of 12lb 8oz Cased in oak and leather with snap cap, crystal oil bottle, and rosewood handled brass cleaning rod. This gun has a vintage English ambiance but is made of modern steels sometime between 1994 and 2003. It remains in new and possibly unfired condition. Mr. Whittome continues to build large bore rifles in the U.K. He knows guns and how to build them.
