Chambers opened to 2 3/4" Bores are very good measuring .729 on the right and .731 on the left. Choked Cylinder on the right and IC on the left. Barrels engraved "Specially Made By Skimin & Wood Birmingham England For Owen Bros. Sauquoit, N.Y." Fancy scalloped back reciever which has gone silver. 80% coverage typical English rose and scroll engraving. "Safe" in gold. Single non-selective trigger. Stocked by Mr. Owen in a very nice piece of dark Italian Walnut with very dark mineral streaks. Straight grip stock with checkered "sideplates" and tear drops back of reciever. Vacant stock oval. Forend fully checkered with small chip missing adjacent to the reciever on the left as pictured. 14" LOP to a leather covered pad. DAC-1 3/4" DAH-2 3/8" Neutral cast. 6lb 9oz This gun is tight and on face. Both forend and buttstock are solid and free of repairs. Nice stock dimmensions. Engraving remains crisp. Mr. Owen entered the gun business in about 1922 and initally used the "Owen Bros., Sauquoit, N.Y." moniker hoping that his brothers would join him in the business. According to Michael Petrov, author of "Custom Gunmakers of the 21st Century" probably only a dozen or so rifles were thus marked. I suspect even fewer shotguns. Marking was shortly changed to "R.G. Owen, Sauquoit, N.Y." This is definitely a nice and rare piece of Americana.
