Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street, London 12 bore sidelock made in 1895 with 28" original nitro proof dovetail lump ejector barrels with a smooth concave game rib and small silver front bead. Bores are excellent and originally proved at .729 and now measure .730 both right and left. Choked cylinder both right and left. Chambers are 2 5/8". Minimum wall thickness of .029 right and .030 left. The receiver, which has gone silver, has 60% coverage of crisp English scroll engraving. "Safe" inlayed in gold. Original Holland & Holland single trigger turned for the right hand. Stocked in a very pleasing piece of English Walnut with excellent color and contrast. Deeley forend release. Vacant stock oval. LOP IS 14 3/4" over a well done leather pad. DAC - 1 1/2" DAH - 2 3/8" Cast off 3/8" Weighs in at 6lb 6oz
This is a very pleasing piece from one of London's top tier gunmakers. An old barrel and trigger guard reblue remains at 98-99%. The stock may have been refinished at some point but in no place is the metal proud to the wood. Stock finish is at 97%. Checkering at 95%. Both buttstock and forend are solid and without cracks or repairs. It is tight and on face. The barrels ring like the bells of Notre Dame. It does have several shallow scratches on the floorplate as pictured. Cased in a modern high quality oak & leather trunk case with brass corners, trade label, and a canvas outer cover all in excellent condition. Accessories include H&H snap caps, oil bottle, grease bottle, and cleaning rod with brushes, jag, and mop. Great game gun weight. Great barrel wall thickness would make this an ideal candidate for removeable chokes. This piece has been lovingly cared for the past 128 years and is ready for the next several generations.
