Holland & Holland Royal .500/450 NE $44,500
Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street , London, Royal back action sidelock double rifle in .500/450 Nitro Express SN 17990 finished in 1904 with 26" extractor chopper lump barrels with island ramp front sight with folding moon sight. Quarter rib with one standing and two folding leaves. Evidenly previously scoped as the quarter rib has two dovetail blanks that do not detract from appearance. London proofs for 70 Cordite and 480 grain bullets. Both bores are excellent.
Receiver has 98% coverage of robust ornamental floral and ribbon engraving which I think is more attractive than the typical Royal scroll. Muted case colors remain at 30%. Bushed strikers and hidden third fastener. Breech face exhibits no primer burn. Stocked in very attractive English Walnut with excellent figure and contrast. Top tang extended over the comb and bottom tang extended to the engraved trap grip cap. Pancake shadow line cheekpiece and lever forend release. LOP is 14 3/4" over a 1/2" Old English pad. Weight of 10lb 9oz.
This is a very nice piece by one of England's top tier makers. It is tight and on face with excellent bores and mechanics. All engraving is crisp. Stock has been oiled and remains at 98%. Barrel reblack remains at 99%. Discretely import marked under the forearm. Cased in its original factory trunk case with trade label. Also comes with a 10 round sealed Kynoch tropical tin of ammunition. Just an extremely nice H&H Royal that is ready for Africa.
