Hoffman Arms Mauser 7x57 SOLD!
Hoffman Arms Company, Cleveland, Ohio #52 in 7x57 Mauser built on a 1914 Oberndorf Mauser commercial action with a 26" barrel with a banded ramp front sight, banded sling stud, and integral quarter rib with three folding leaves. Bore is excellent. Action features include a single lever Griffin & Howe sidemount with a Zeiss Zielklein scope and the uncommon and desireable Lyman 35 bolt release peep sight. Original leather lens covers included. The bolt serial number does not match the action, something seen from time to time on both Hoffman and Griffin & Howe guns. It is obviously correct to the gun and has two panel checkering on the knob. This first year production [1923] Hoffman is stocked in a John Wright carved stock with horn pistol grip cap and forend tip. LOP is 13 3/4" to an engraved and checkered trap buttplate. This gun weighs in at 9lb 110z with scope.
Hoffman Arms Company stood tall with the top tier of early 20th Century American gunmakers alongside Griffin & Howe and R. G. Owen. They produced less than a third the number of guns produced by Griffin & Howe. This 97 year old time capsule of gunmaking Americana remians in good original overall condition. It has been hunted and I'm sure has great stories to tell. You just need to let it whisper in your ear!
