Griffin & Howe Springfield Engraved 30-06 SOLD!
Very early Kornbrath engraved Griffin & Howe Springfield 30-06 with 24 " barrel with banded hooded ramp front sight and banded sling swivel barrel tie down. Early single lever Griffin & Howe sidemount marked "Pat. Appl. For". Zeiss Zeilklein 2x scope with original leather lens covers. Lyman 48 receiver peep sight.Serrated trigger face. Bolt knob flattened and checkered on the inside with a pear shaped checkered panel on the outside. Rudolph Kornbrath scroll engraving on the barrel shank, barrel band, floorplate, and trigger guard. This gun does not have a Griffin & Howe serial number on the barrel. Stocked in a very nice piece of European Walnut with an early style Fleur-de-Lis checkering pattern, horn pistol grip cap, and schnabel forend tip. Checkered and engraved trap buttplate containing an oil bottle. Overall good condition with an excellent bore. 13 3/8" LOP 9lb 2oz as scoped.
Seymour Griffin and James Howe formed Griffin & Howe in May of 1923. This is one of their earliest guns with no Griffin & Howe serial number but with Griffin & Howe Inc., New York engraved on the floorplate. This gun is from the Michael Petrov collection and pictured on page 25 of his book "Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century". A rare piece of Americana.
