W.&C. Scott Sidelock 20 Gauge $9800
W.&C. Scott & Son, 55 Vicoria St., London "Monte Carlo B" sidelock ejector with "Scott's Improved Bolt" manufactured in 1924. This gun has 26" M/F dovetail lump ejector barrels with a tapered raised matted rib with small ivory mid-bead and larger ivory front bead. Excellent mirror bores measuring .617 right and .619 left. Choked .010 right (M) and .029 left (F) Minimum wall thickness .033 right and left. The 9-pin sidelock receiver retains 50% case colors. All screws are untouched. Game bird and scroll engraving with 80% coverage. Rib extension crossbolt third fastener. Original single selective trigger.
Stocked in pleasing fairly straight grained English Walnut with a Prince of Wales grip and receiver tear drops. LOP 13 7/8" over a rear position single trigger. Thin horn buttplate with engraved screws. DAC- 1 1/2" DAH 2 5/8" Neutral cast. Weighs in at a sveldt 5lb 9oz. The stock oval is vacant.
This is a delightful high condition English 20 bore sidelock. It is tight and on face. Barrels ring like chimes. Blueing at 96% Stock finish at 97% It does have one small chip missing from the forend as pictured. Cased in its very nice oak and leather trunk case with snap caps, oil bottles, and cleaning accessories. Pre-war English 20 gauge sidelocks are decidedly less common than 12 gauges. It just doesn't get much better than this. The between the war years are considered the epitome of British gunmaking.
