Niedner Rifle Corp. Shelhamer/Kornbrath 30-06 $5495
Kornbrath engraved Springfield 30-06 by the Niedner Rifle Corp., Dowagiac, MI built in 1934 and stocked by Thomas Shelhamer with his stamp under the buttplate. The 23" barrel is stamped by Carlyn Behrman, Niedner's top barrel maker, and also in the barrel channel which Michael Petrov thought indicated that this was Behrman's personal gun as this has not been previously seen. The bore is excellent. There is a banded ramp front sight and a stock barrel tiedown screw. The reciever features a stippled front ring and a Griffin & Howe sidemount sporting an early Lyman Alaskan scope with exposed adjustments and leather lens covers. There is a Lyman cocking piece peep sight and the trigger bow is modified for a push button shotgun style safety. The Shelhamer stock is done in gorgeous English Walnut with very dark mineral streaks. Other features include a Niedner checkered steel buttplate, pancake shadow line cheekpiece, Fluer de Lis and ribbon checkering and a schnabel forend tip. 13 3/8" LOP 8lb 5oz as scoped. The floorplate trigger guard and grip cap exhibit exquisite Rudolph Kornbrath engraving.
This is a great piece of Americana by some of the early masters, Niedner, Shelhamer, Kornbrath. It remains in excellent overall condition. It just doesn't get much better than this!
